More than a festival and free concert series, Chamber Music Midwest functions as a laboratory for the reformulation of musical culture. An environment wherein centuries-old power structures are deconstructed and dissolved, the festival defers to a philosophy based upon accessibility, the importance of relationships, and the need for critical thinking. Indeed, it is this foundation that shapes our goals: we seek to dismantle the physical and rhetorical barriers that prevent access to music, art and ideas. We seek to redefine the relationships between the performer and the spectator. We seek to incite critical thought about musical practice, performance and culture.
